Modern Persian form of Avestan Yima Kshaeta, which meant "shining <a href="details.php?no=&n=JAM">JAM</a>". This was the name of a mythological king of Persia. He is known as either Jamshid or Jam, where Jamshid is a combination of his original name and an honourific.
